Other ways to pay for a CSA share?

We have options available for you besides paying in full, all at one time:

What can I expect in my share each week?

We offer organic vegetables seasonally from spring through fall. Amounts and weights will vary week to week, but we will aim for each item to be a serving for a family of two to four with approximately six to ten vegetable options.

We will have weeks where we try to give bumper crops of items like cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. Perfect for preserving  into the winter months. Also giving out many crops like garlic that will hold well just as they are for many months. Below you can see snapshots of some of the items!

What if I missed a week or will miss a week?

  • Shareholders who purchase a full, 26-week season may double their share at any pick-up to make up for any weeks missed. But you may not pick up more than two shares per week so we have enough for every shareholder every harvest.

  • If you purchase a half, 13-week season we cannot guarantee the ability to double your share, but you are welcome to ask when you arrive. The pickup staff will accommodate the request if there is enough produce on hand.

  • Shareholders who purchase a 13-week season are expected to skip half of the 26 weeks. You may take any 13 of the 26—they do not need to alternate and we do not need to know in advance which weeks you plan to come.

  • No food will be wasted from shares that you miss. We donate all food remaining at the end of the pickup times to a local food pantry the next day.

What if I would like to send a friend?

  • It’s easy! And highly encouraged. If you think you will miss a week and will not be able to make up the share credit later it is a great way to share the experience of local food with those around you.

You may allow anyone to pick up your vegetables for you. All they will need to do is tell us the name used to purchase the share when they come to the pickup, and we will tell them how to pick up the CSA share.

What should I bring when I pick up my share?

  • Bags and containers to carry your vegetables. We do usually have some bags on site, but it's always better to reuse your own. Some shareholders bring a combination of plastic and reusable canvas bags. Large plastic clamshells (the kind that hold baby spinach in the grocery store) are also useful for carrying tomatoes, which bruise easily, and salad greens.

  • Clagett Farm pick-up: Scissors or a knife for U-pick items.

What do I do when I arrive for my pick-up?

To be sure you are in the right place
Clagett Farm pick-up:
Located at 11904 Old Marlboro Pike, Upper Marlboro MD 20772.
Enter Clagett Farm CSA into your GPS and you will find yourself right at the pickup site on the farm!

Annapolis pick-up: Phillip Merrill Environmental Center, located at 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403.
To find the pickup site, pass the main front parking lot and continue to find us underneath the building in the parking garage. We will have our tables set up right by the entrance—you should see our sign!

Davidsonville pick-up: Vineyards at Dodon, located at 391 Dodon Road, Davidsonville, MD 21035
To find us continue straight on the main drive until you see the open pavilion located along the right of the road across from the main building—you should see our sign!

  • A staff member or volunteer will be around to check you in for the week. Simply tell that person your name and the name of the person who purchased the share, if it is different. If you do not see someone to check you in right away, please go ahead and get started picking up your share, just check in before leaving.

  • We will list what produce you can take on a board adjacent to each pickup table. We try to portion out each item and indicate how much you may take. If an item needs to be weighed we will provide a scale in that area. Please weigh carefully, as we often have just enough for everyone.

  • If you don't recognize something or are unsure how to cook it, we would love to give you general advice about how we prepare it. If you know you don’t like something or can’t use it, don’t feel obliged to take it. We will donate anything you don’t take.

  • If we are running low on something, we might have more in the cooler or van. Please let us know. We might also have something different to bring out to replace it.

  • We accept compost at Clagett Farm. You will see a bin somewhere on the ground near the pickup area. If you brought something for our compost pile, you can empty your bag into that bin. Wwe prefer that you take your smellier compost straight to the pile (we can direct you to it). We do not compost items that aren’t food, like paper cups/bowls and compostable utensils and bags. Those items tend to blow around and become unsightly litter. We cannot accept compost at our Annapolis/Davidsonville pick-ups.

What if I need a pre-bagged share?

  • You may request a pre-bagged share! If you email the farm, clagettfarm@cbf.org, prior to the pick-up that day before noon so we can be ready. Be sure to receive a confirmation email before heading out.

If you are at Clagett Farm, we will have a designated spot for your car right beside the CSA pickup area. The area will be marked for curbside only. Please call 301-627-4662 and dial 2 to reach a staff member. (If you are sick please stay inside and simply open your trunk.)

If you are at Annapolis or Davidsonville, just simply park close by and we should be able to find you easily as we are located right at the entrance. Please call 301-627-4662 and dial 2 to reach a staff member.(If you are sick please stay inside and simply open your trunk.)

What is U-pick?

  • U-Pick at Clagett Farm is included for all shareholders from all pick-up locations.

  • You may pick anytime during our our open business hours
9:00-5:00p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
    9:00-6:00p.m. Wednesday
    Closed Sundays

We allow our shareholders to pick some extras from the farm on their own when available in addition to their regular share. This will include herbs and flowers by the pickup site, as well as some crops like strawberries and tomatoes at the height of their seasons.

  • All items will be on our official U-Pick list, that changes throughout the year.

  • Your weekly email will list the items that are on the official U-Pick list. We will also keep a list current at the CSA pickup so it can be seen whenever you come by.

  • Please bring your own tools to harvest when appropriate, a nice pair of scissors are useful for herbs/flowers.

  • Do not drive past our gravel drive, all other roads are meant for farm staff only.

  • Bathrooms: We have a pair of composting toilets across the driveway from the washing station. The building is painted red, so you can't miss it.

Are dogs welcome at the farm?

Due to our livestock and many guests/volunteers, no dogs are allowed to be walked on the farm. (unless they are service animals)

How much food is donated and where?

  • We have committed to distributing over 30% of our harvest to local food pantries and people with lower incomes. We donate food at the end of every week. It’s important to us that every member of our community has access to fresh, nutritious food, and we know it’s important to you as well.

  • We donate to SHABACH, which is an emergency food pantry in Landover, Maryland, as well as, working with the PGC Food Rescue to donate to several pantries within Prince George’s County.

  • We also offer CSA shares at half price to any household with income below 185 percent of the federal poverty level.

Can I drive off-road (non-gravel paths) on the farm?

No, we do ask that no vehicles other than farm staff vehicles go beyond the gravel paths around our main driveway to the CSA pick-up and the parking area. We will aim to keep U-pick items along these areas so they are easy to access during the season. Areas not open to vehicles will be noted with signs.
