Farm Updates

Welcome back everyone!!!
We hope the past week gave you a chance to slow down and enjoy a little rest. We took a bit of time to do just that, at least for a moment. While things were quieter, the farm still moved right along, easing fully into summer. The greens are tucked in, and spring is officially behind us.

We're hoping to time our cover crop seeding, for those fields, just right before the next rain so the new growth gets a strong start. Hoping to help outcompete the weeds, which seem to grow at full speed this time of year.

There was also still some harvesting. Plants don’t really do holidays, no matter how nicely we ask. The eggplants and squash kept on going, and the eggplant in particular started producing a lot during the break. You’ll start seeing them in your shares this week, and there’s plenty more to come.

We also kicked off our onion harvest. Over the next few weeks, we’ll bring in more and begin the curing process so they can store well into the 2025 season. First up are the red onions, which are great for fresh eating but don’t store quite as long as the other types we’ll be harvesting soon.

We’ve had a steady stream of tomatoes for a couple of weeks now and by the looks of the high tunnel that is not slowing down. And full-on tomato season is almost here. Some of the field varieties are starting to change color, and we’ve been able to get a good amount of twine on the first two rounds of plants. That’s a solid start to keeping the fruit up off the ground and ready for harvest

Another favorite, potatoes, are still developing underground. We’ll check in on those again in a couple of weeks to see how they’re coming along.

Peak summer shares are on the way.
