Farm Updates

We're heading into our third week and the greens are coming in strong and growing quickly. It's also exciting to see a plentiful amount of summer squash and our high tunnel cucumbers starting to come in, a welcome early taste of summer to pair with those fresh greens. For the summer squash, we’ll begin with a generous amount of zucchinis since they prefer the milder temperatures. As the season progresses and the heat ramps up, we’ll move into other varieties that are better suited to the height of summer.

As we move through the final weeks of spring, it’s a great time to enjoy these cool-season crops. With each passing week, the rising temperatures will start to favor the summer plants like tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. Many of these are already in the ground and growing steadily with the help of the rain we've been getting.

With June just around the corner, the farm is feeling full and surrounded by food. It’s an exciting moment but also the beginning of a very busy stretch. Soon, we’ll be taking on some of the larger seasonal tasks. We'll start by snapping off garlic scapes, or garlic flowers, to help the bulbs size up, followed by harvesting the garlic a couple of weeks later.

After a bit more weeding, we’ll be mulching the tomatoes and peppers and finishing up planting the last of the season’s crops. At this point in the year the to-do list is long and everything seems to be happening at once. It can feel like a rush to get through it all, but each task helps set us up for a bigger harvest throughout the 2025 season.

Looking ahead, we’ll have crops like Swiss chard, beets, carrots and more of the greens we aim to offer most weeks, including kale and collards. In the tunnels, we also have one more treat coming along nicely and we expect it to make its way into shares in the next couple of weeks, cherry tomatoes!
