Farm Updates

The end of May is here, and June is just around the corner. With the new month, we’ll start to see the season change out in the fields and on the harvest benches. We’re holding on as long as we can to keep bringing in salad greens and spring roots, but at some point, we’ll have to give in to the heat.

This week, we’re once again lucky to have a rainstorm helping to water in our freshly planted seeds and baby transplants. It’s a special kind of magic watching the fields come together and seeing months of planning take shape right before our eyes.

As we move out of spring, we’ll be doing so without strawberries. Our patch was hit hard by a fungal disease called Neo-P, which is affecting many small farms across the country. We're not ready to give up just yet, though. We plan to plant again this fall and are hopeful we can figure out how to manage the disease so we can enjoy field-picked strawberries again.

While these little berries have left a gap in our spring harvest, the greens coming out of the fields right now are making up for it. And as the nights start to warm up a bit more, we’re expecting other small red treasures to start showing up in pick-ups in early June.

The squash is also starting to take off, and we’re expecting a big harvest. With grilling season here, one of our favorite ways to enjoy them is to slice them lengthwise, add a little oil and seasoning, and throw them right on the grill. It’s simple and so delicious.

Friendly reminders:

  • Please remember to bring your own bags or boxes to pick-up to help reduce waste

  • Also, for the safety of our livestock and the integrity of our food, no dogs are allowed at pick-ups. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep the farm and food safe for everyone.

  • 13 week shareholders can visit us any of the 26 weeks of harvest to use share credits. No need to notify us if you are coming.
