Farm Updates

The fields are drying out after last week’s heavy rain, and we are more than ready for the stretch of sunny days ahead. Over two inches of rain soaked the soil and slowed us down a bit, but like the crops, we are bouncing back quickly with the return of warmth and light.

Something to savor in the share right now is the garlic scapes. They are a short-season favorite. Once we harvest them from our garlic plants, that is it for the year, so now is the time to enjoy them. Load up while they are here; they store for a long time in a produce bag in the crisper drawer. These curly green shoots have a mild, sweet garlic flavor and can be used in just about anything. Blend them into a pesto, add them to eggs, or roast them until tender. They are simple, full of flavor, and you can eat the whole thing.

The cucumbers and squash are holding steady this week. With more sun on the way and field cucumbers beginning to produce, we expect them to stick around for a few more weeks. Cherry tomatoes are also just around the corner, and if the weather holds, we could see a good harvest of them as early as next week.

There is plenty of field work ahead as peak summer approaches. Next week we will begin mulching our field tomatoes, preparing for the garlic harvest, and as always, getting more seeds in the ground. Let’s enjoy the weather this week because it looks like June is about to warm up in the weeks ahead.

Friendly reminders:

  • Please remember to bring your own bags or boxes to pick-up to help reduce waste

  • Also, for the safety of our livestock and the integrity of our food, no dogs are allowed at pick-ups. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep the farm and food safe for everyone.
